A Golden Key to the Black Community Scholorship Fund
 
Our organization has created a Scholarship Fund to help students who normally would not  have access to further their education. This scholarship is for students of all colors and creeds in our communities.

The reason we started this scholarship fund in 2005 comes from an interesting story.  It started with a company that wanted to give away a free computer within the Black Community.  We started searching out a promising student that would be worthy of the award, when after many months of work, the company went out of business and everyone started to back out.  I refused to let it go and just quit on something so important, so I got a few other people from the community to make contributions along with me to keep the fund alive.  Fortunately, we were successful.  Though we were not able to give away a new computer, we were able to come up with enough money to help a young promising student in our community in other ways.  We repaired his old computer, gave him a new moniter and keyboard, gave him a banquet donated by Wendy's in DeSoto, and awarded him with $700.00 cash!  Our plan now is to continue this very important scholorship fund as the funds become available.    

We would just like to say congratulations to Colt Collis, the 2006 recipient. He attended Steven F. Austin University for a full term. He has excelled at Cedar Valley College with a 3.7 GPA, and has continued to be on the Dean's List. Colt has been an excellent volunteer with Communities Helping Communities.
